Barney's story. A rescue who helped rescue other dogs
WHERE THE DOGS COME FIRST
Well Barney's life had never been easy, beaten , abused , pain and mental torture is all this dog had ever known. Barney's plight was first brought to mags and my attention by a guy called Rob something we wil allways be greatfull for .
Mags and I adopted Barney when he was 5 yrs old ,our only regret is we never met Barney sooner in his life .
Well the day Mags and I met Barney was a strange one , because of the so called reputation he was supposed to have , on the 2 hr drive there to meet him we tried to think of every excuse we could not to foster him .
But the first time we looked into this boys eyes and saw his pain he had to come home with us, ok yes Barney had issues but what dog in his situation wouldn't ? .
Barney needed love and understanding but most of all he needed someone to trust and love and would love him back for who he realy was ,a dog who time and time again had been mistreated by man.
Well 4 days into fostering Barney we decided that this lad was going no where and a phone call was made and we adopted Barney .
Ok Barney had issues but nothing that with the right comfort and understanding time and patience could not be over come , in the begining Barney used to suffer flash backs and this was quite stressfull for him , but with time these got less and less .
One of our proudest moments with Barney [and there were many ] was the day some 12 mths after we adopted him he was playing off lead and met a new friend in a country park , a little 3 yr old lad who played a game of throwing little sticks for Barney to chase and bring back to him to continue the game , a memorey that will stay with me for ever
Abused as a young dog , then along with other dogs treated in what I can only described as criminal by a kennel owner who was left unchecked by the very people who were supposed to care for Barney and dogs like him . Instead Barney and others like him were used as bits of meat a way of raising funds for a failing bisuness ,kenneled for many many years in what can only be described as a hell hole , I know I saw it with my own eye's and had spent countless sleepless nights worring about finding homes for the long term dogs that were left there , many of which I succseeded in helping, but to my regret not all of them , something that still haunts me to this day.
Saddly we lost Barney on the 16/5/07, it was quite sudden and unexpected , Barney has been a big part of our life. Not only was he a dog who had endured so much pain and suffering in his life and came out the other side, but he was a big part of the rescue, he welcomed all dogs of all ages into his home, allowing us to continue to foster. Barney we are proud and privileged to have been by your side.
