29/01/10

Well the pups are 16 days old today and all seems to be going well , they have now started to find there voices , and are now starting to wander about the whelping box , thier eyes are starting to open ,mom still has a few little problems with producing milk but we are getting over that , I will try to update a few new pics of them over the weekend

update 20/01/10

well sadly we lost one of the pups two days ago she fought a brave little fight for servival but she has now gone to the rainbow bridge, the othe five pups are doing ok ,Rosie was back at the vets today , she still hasnt got a great deal of milk and one of her teats has become infected . So its a case of just keeping a close eye on her and the pups at the moment .Rosie is a good mom if not just a little clumsy with them now and again .

05/02/10

Sad news ,

sadly one of the pups who we had nick named tiny tim lost his brave battle for life yesterday 04/02/10,he was 3 weeks old and both mags and I had spent the last 24 hrs trying to save him but he did not pull through ,he went down hill realy quickly and it was a bit of a shock as we thought all the pups were doing well , sometimes in rescue we have bad days this is one of those days .

wait for me at the bridge little fella ,

Please meet Jessica about 10 mths old

Well little Jess is another young dog who again was on the verge of being put to sleep , we here at Z.R.R were contacted by hope rescue and when they told me her story I immediately said we would step in and help her . Jess was being offered on a free add site to anyone who wanted her . Jess was limping and after seeking a vets opinion [ a large natinal charity ] the owner was told it was in the dogs best interest to be put to sleep , I then contacted the vet involved and spent the next 15 mins being told that this was the case , so I explained that we would like her notes sent to our vets as we were taking little jess on .This was not appreciated by the head vet involved but I stuck to my guns .Boy am I glad I did .

Arangments were then made for me to go and pick little Jess up from her safe house , and what a supprise I got when I met her ,a real darling and just a little frightend girl .Jess has now been with us a few days and today was at our vets for a compleat check and extensive set of xrays etc to see what was wrong with her ,well not alot ,yes she has a limp on one of her front legs but this has been shown to be no more than suspected "Growing pains "

(commonly called "growing pains," "wandering lameness," or simply "pano") is associated with large breed dogs and usually occurs in dogs 5 to 12 months of age, a. It most commonly affects males by a ratio of 4:1. Females are most often affected around their first heat. [and guess who is in season yep young jess ] However, many other factors have been associated with pano: diet, viral diseases, autoimmune problems, hyperestrogen, and vascular problems. In other words, no one knows what causes this. It is characterised by excessive bone production on the long bones and is an inflammation of the membrane covering the bone. Dogs will generally grow out of the problem, but it ican be a painful condition.

Now the above spounds bad but its not with the right diet ,exersize and pain killers this can be managed while she grows out of it , IT CETAINLY DOES NOT WARRANT A YOUNG DOG BEING PUT TO SLEEP FOR.

So little jess will stop her with us in rescue for the next couple of months while she gets over this getting every thing she needs I will update her story as and when .
